Comparing Black Rugs
If you have seen a few black rugs you like, but are not sure which one to buy, here are a few questions to ask yourself about each of the rugs on your short list which might help you make up your mind.
1. Is the Style of Rug Appropriate for the Room?
Black rugs fall into two camps as a rule : they are either contemporary or traditional. Contemporary black rugs are either plain in color or they have large, bold and often asymmetric designs, often in black and white. Traditional rugs on the other hand contain many colors arranged in a small regular pattern. If your room is full of traditional furniture then choose the traditional kind. If you favor the modern style, choose a more contemporary rug.
2. Is the Rug the Right Size and Shape?
Above all your rug must fit the space where you will place it. If your chosen rugs are different shapes and sizes, make a template for them out of newspaper which you have taped together and see which one fits your room best. Generally, round black rugs look best at the center of a square room or area whereas rectangular ones are best in a room of the same shape.
3. Is the Rug Good Quality?
In general, the rug with the thickest pile and the most natural materials will be the best quality. This is important, especially with a plain black rug as there is nothing for poor quality to hide behind. Black rugs in wool, leather or sheepskin are all worth considering before a plain black rug in polypropylene. If the rug has a great design, this may sway you a little and it will not matter so much whether the rug is made of natural materials.
4. Does it Fit Your Budget?
After you have judged the other criteria, price may not matter so much, but if you are on a strict budget, it can be the deciding factor. If you like a very expensive rug only a little bit more than a much cheaper one, it can help to make up your mind. It’s all about value for money.
