Dietary Tips for Acid Reflux

Heartburn or acid reflux is a condition brought about by the backward flow of the foods and acids from the tummy into the gullet or esophagus. The esophagus is where food travels from your mouth, throat and then towards the stomach. At the end of the esophagus there is a special band of muscle called the LES or Lower Esophageal Sphincter which normally stays tightly closed and only opens to allow the fluidss and foods you take in to enter the stomach. If this muscle is weakened or damaged, it does not close properly; thus allowing the abdominal contents to regurgitate or reenter your esophagus and throat, giving rise to the many signs and symptoms of acid reflux such as tightening and burning chest pain, nausea, dysphagia among others.

While there are many over the counter medications readily available for treating this troubling condition, such medications are not the ultimate solution to this digestive problem. The best way to fight this disease is with home remedies for acid reflux. One of the best remedies is following the right type of diet.
