Grandma’s Slate Roof Tiles
Grandma Ruth fell in love with her home for its slate roof tiles. She moved to our neighborhood in order to be closer to the grandkids, but change is always difficult for the elderly. It was a new neighborhood, with modern looking houses and many swimming pools. Fancy cars dotted the driveways. Grandma’s homey cottage was going to be sacrificed for this? I think the only reason the move was even possible for her was because of the slate roof tiles. One sympathetic architect had built a beautiful old style home, complete with the historic slate roof tiling, right down our street. Modern kitchen amenities to make life easy; my parents were thrilled. The historic beauty of slate roofing; my grandmother felt that perhaps she belonged.
