Should You Sell Your Scrap Gold?

Everywhere you turn someone is offering to buy the broken gold jewelry you own for a huge profit. Yet many people are warning against these quick sales for one reason or another. Some believe it’s all a load of bull while others think that you could make more if you just wait it out. Of course the real question that’s probably on your mind is, should you sell your scrap gold?

Well, that depends. If you don’t have much, it really might not be worth selling. Of course right now the going price for the precious metal is running anywhere from $900 to $1000 per an ounce. However, you shouldn’t expect to receive anywhere near that amount from most dealers. Some jewelry shops may offer you a better price, but that will also depend on whether or not the shop buys broken gold jewelry or not.

Scrap gold jewelry isn’t the only thing buyers are looking for. If you have a missing earring, gold filling, coins that are worth less than their rarity value, or other trinkets, those can be sold just as easily. And if you’re lucky, you may find a buyer who’s willing to give you a little extra if your items have some age value as well.

You should keep in mind that not everything is worth selling, however. If your jewelry has sentimental value, then it’s priceless. And if you’re considering just pawning that item, then promising that you’ll return for it, be careful. No one can predict the future and sometimes a promise can turn into a broken one.  Your best bet is to leave your sentimental valuables at home.

If you really want to sell your scrap gold, you should shop around. Don’t just seek out your own neighborhood either. Sometimes a 30-minute drive into another town or city may be well worth it if you can get an even better deal on your unwanted jewelry!
