Walk In Shower: Wet room or Cubicle?
There are many different designs and styles available to choose from whether you are installing a new walk in shower or just upgrading an old one.
The first choice that you need to make is whether you want your new shower to be confined to a cubicle or if you want it to be a wet room. In small bathroom spaces, cubicles have the advantage of keeping any water from splashing out on items that you may want to keep dry; such as towels, toilet paper, or reading material. These showers do not have any shower screens or trays to speak of so they may not be the best option in a very small space that has lots of extra clutter to keep dry. With a cubicle you will have to measure and try to find a pre-sized cubicle that is appropriate for your space. This is not the case with a custom made wet room that fits your shower area. They should be tiled from floor to ceiling, thus turning a portion or all (if you incorporate wall mounted sinks and toilets) of the room into a shower. In large areas there is very little need for the concern of getting other items wet and you can make the shower as large or as small as you like. Also, since the walls and ceiling of your shower are the walls and ceiling of your room there is no need for a water guard or lip at the entrance of your shower. This means that you can literally just walk straight in to your shower with nothing to step over or trip on. The floor of the shower is sloped and guides the water to a drain in the center to keep it from other parts of the room. This option always gives you a positive return on your investment because it is cost effective, modern, stylish, easy-to-clean, maintenance free, and can increase the resale value of your home. They are also extremely durable and long lasting. As long as they are properly waterproofed (best left to the professionals) and built with a nonporous tile, you and your family will have the benefit of enjoying a wet room for years to come.
